PEACE IT UP: MENTORSHIP. SUPPORT. LIFE-SKILLS.

Through relationships built on trust, authenticity and dedication, the Peacebuilders Initiative is directly lowering the level of violent crime throughout Hartford. Led by a staff of local youth leaders familiar with the circumstances and the communities of the neighborhoods they serve, Peacebuilders works to reduce violence by connecting potentially violent and aggressive youth to formal systems and positive opportunities.
As a branch of COMPASS Youth Collaborative, Inc., Peacebuilders extends CYC’s mission to improve the lives of youth throughout Hartford by serving the community’s most disconnected population, ages 13-17, during non-school hours. Through conflict mediation, resource connection, crisis intervention and other counselling services, Peacebuilders rebuilds the lives of this vulnerable population.
NAVIGATING PEACE THROUGH PARTNERSHIP
Peacebuilders operates with help from the City of Hartford Office of Youth Services (HOYS) and is determined to
- Reduce the likelihood that a youth participant in the program will be a perpetrator or a victim of violence
- Reduce the level of delinquent behavior among participants
- Increase the participating youth’s ability to navigate the systems essential for their success such as education, life skills, recreation, career and family
- Increase the participating youth’s empathy for others and attachment to his or her community
